Objectives

Upon completion of this lesson, you will be able to:

  • join Microsoft Teams with a code
  • interact better with instructional staff and peers

Overview

Microsoft Teams enables everyone you work with to chat, meet, call, and collaborate all in one place, no matter the location. It is the preferred communication hub at Northeastern University across all campuses. You have automatic access to Teams (web, mobile, and desktop clients).

Teams is used to communicate with peers (replacing email and other chat programs such as Slack), schedule and attend live meetings and online lectures, and make and receive phone calls. The University’s phone system is Teams and all phone calls are forwarded to all Teams devices.

We recommend that you install mobile and desktop versions of Teams to stay in touch with your peers, instructors, TAs, and not miss out on critical communication.

Visit teams.northeastern.edu to download and install Microsoft Teams or join through the cloud version via teams.microsoft.com.

Joining a Team

You can join a team in several ways. You can request access, you can be automatically added by the team’s owner, or you can join with a unique code provided by the team owner. This tutorial below shows how to join a team with a code. Your instructor will have either published the code on the LMS (commonly Canvas) or sent and email with the code unique for the team, course, and term.

The demonstration below goes through the process of joining a team with a code.
